New York police arrested an al Qaeda sympathizer who plotted to bomb police stations and post offices in the city, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said.

Bloomberg announced the arrest of Jose Pimental, 27, of Manhattan at a news conference Sunday night. Pimental, a U.S. citizen originally from the Dominican Republic, was arrested on Saturday.

"He appears to be a total lone wolf," the mayor said. "There is no evidence that he worked with anyone else."

Bloomberg said that Pimental was motivated by his resentment of American troops in Iraq and Afghanistan and was fueled by al Qaeda propaganda.
