Security in Mombasa has been beefed-up as the coastal region records a high influx of domestic tourists during the festive season.
Coast Province Police boss Aggrey Adoli has acknowledged that the coastal town has not recorded any insecurity incident.
“We are assuring everyone of adequate security and giving notice to criminals that we are on the lookout," said Mr Adoli.
A spot check by Nation revealed that revellers enjoyed beach party on Christmas eve amid tight security.“We had no fear. Security was very tight and we had to undergo three frisking session before we could access the beach,” said Job Otieno who is on holiday from Nairobi.
The tourism industry at the Coast are expecting to close the year on a high note following a rise in bookings from local and international visitors during the festive season.
Hotels have registered bookings of between 90 and 100 per cent for the period between Christmas and New Year, according to industry sources.
