First Lady Margaret Kenyatta has called on communities in African countries to co-exist peacefully.
The First Lady said peace and stability was important for the continent’s development.
“Everyone in society has a role to play in ensuring communities co-exist peaceful,” she said.
She made the remarks after visiting the Secretariat of the Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution based at the offices of the African First Ladies Peace Mission (AFLPM) in Abuja, Nigeria.
AFLPM is an umbrella organization of African First Ladies that seeks to promote a culture of peace and development in Africa.
It also aims at using appropriate mechanisms to protect women and children in armed conflict
areas in the continent.
During the visit the First Lady, who was received at the institute by her Nigerian counterpart, First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan, was briefed on the work of the institute and the projects it has undertaken in the continent.
She also met and held talks with the Nigeria First Lady at State House, Abuja.
At the meeting, the First Ladies discussed ways of promoting peace in the continent.
