The Norwegian Defence was exposed to a serious cyber attack on the day after Norwegian military aircraft began participating in the NATO-led bombing of targets inside Libya. Several Defence staff received the same e-mail which included a virus designed to open all Defence computers for attacks by hackers. However, one recipient became suspicious, and alerted experts, thus preventing the attack. According to the newspaper VG, this was one of the most serious cyber attacks ever on Norwegian Defence communications systems.

The Defence Command regards this as an attack with a definite aim against their systems.
